People's History of the NHS

Back

Portrait of Caroline Rennalls

I’m fifty-two and I’ve worked in the NHS now for thirty-four years.

I had specialised in cardio-thoracic nursing, worked across the country predominantly in London, and then the second half of my career in Birmingham, moving into management.

I have no regrets in my career choice as a nurse. I have no regrets with the education and the opportunities that it’s brought for me.

I have been disappointed at times with the attitude of people or the lower ceilings of achievement - but in many ways that’s motivated me to keep striving and going forward and I’ve met some lovely people of all nationalities along the way.
